Berliners Max Graef and Glenn Astro are just a couple-a mates who like to create choppy beats and have a good time. In 2015 they consecrated their musical union, forming the brilliantly named Money $ex Records.
Graef is renowned for his 2014 album Rivers of The Red Planet; a wondrous exploration of left-field electronic music with the thudding Itzehoe at its heart. He moved in the same Berlin circles as Astro, a purveyor of equally eclectic sounds, and they became close friends.
The duo’s collaborative double LP The Yard Work Simulator dropped at the end of May on Ninja Tune. It will not be to everyone’s taste, but you cannot ignore their ability to fuse jazz, contorted synths and thumping beats to create something coherent. Where The Fuck Are My Hard Boiled Eggs?! is the standout track, bouncing into life after a studded build-up.
