Chaos In The CBD – Global Erosion

After four years of producing music in their home country, brothers Ben and Louis Helliker-Hales (better known as Chaos In The CBD) ‘fell’ into the south London music scene after moving from distant New Zealand in 2012, leaving behind the isolated club culture of Auckland. Ever since, their subdued and jazz-tinged house music has been a homage to the sights and sounds of their new surroundings, as well as their local peers.

The Helliker-Hales were fortunate enough to find that their aunt had space for them to stay at her place in Peckham and ever since the brothers have been immersed in the local dance music culture. Having previously collaborated with Bradley Zero’s Peckham staple Rhythm Section International for the ethereal EP Midnight In Peckham, the siblings have now linked up with local record store and now label YAM Records for their new release Global Erosion, a two-track EP.

The title track is a mellow, vaguely melancholic exploration and is brilliant in its simplicity. The understated percussion and gradual permeation of the horns of long-time collaborator Isaac Aesili are reminiscent of a late night journey on the top deck of a double-decker; revellers, cars and streetlights flashing by.
