There must be something in the water in Perth, and it might well be psychoactive. Out of the home of Tame Impala, The Chemist and The Growl (and featuring musicians from some of the above) come Aussie psych-rockers, HAMJAM.

Lean features a marimba loop, one of the best bass lines you will hear all year and pop sensibilities by the bucketload. The single follows on from the band’s critically acclaimed, self-titled EP of 2014, as they continue to perfect their ‘carport’ – that’s “garage without the door”, apparently. HAMJAM’s output has been somewhat erratic since then, averaging roughly one release every 12 months, but Lean feels like a return to form, with Jack Doepel’s saxophone adding an 80’s pop feel to the single.

Lean is available as a free download on their Bandcamp page, and hopefully we’ll be able to bring you new HAMJAM before this time next year.
